ABB FSM4000-S4 is an AC-excited electromagnetic flowmeter, mainly used for the accurate measurement of the flow rate of liquids, slurries, and sludges with a certain level of electrical conductivity. 2. Application Scenarios

Pulp & Paper Industry: Used to measure the flow rate of various liquids in the pulp and papermaking process, such as pulp slurry and chemical agents.

3. Operating Principle

It is based on Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction. When a conductive fluid flows through the measuring tube perpendicular to the direction of a magnetic field, the induced voltage in the fluid is detected by two electrodes placed opposite each other along the diameter.

 

The signal voltage (UE) is proportional to the magnetic induction intensity (B), the distance between the electrodes (D), and the average flow velocity (V) of the fluid. Since the magnetic induction intensity (B) and the electrode distance (D) are constants, the signal voltage (UE) has a proportional relationship with the average flow velocity (V). Through the volume flow calculation formula (UE ~ QV), the flow rate of the fluid can be derived—meaning the signal voltage (UE) has a linear proportional relationship with the flow rate.
